Food plays a big role in all lives and this is no different in aged care. LASA is inviting anyone interested in the issues of food, nutrition and aged care to join a panel of experts on Wednesday 28 February (11.00am EDST) to distill fact from fiction and discuss best practice in this vital area of elder care.

The Food in Residential Aged Care webinar will explore a range of perspectives and industry initiatives aimed at enhancing the holistic experience of dining in aged care. The session will include discussion about nutrition, food service systems and environments that promote enhanced dining experiences.

The Food in Residential Aged Care webinar can be attended in person at the LASA Brisbane office or via live webinar (login details will be provided once registered). The expert panellists are:

  • Cherie Hugo – Nutritionist and Researcher, Bond University, Founder of The Lantern Project;
  • Ngaire Hobbins – Writer, speaker and educator on food, ageing and brain health, and an international authority on nutrition for aged care; and
  • Sandra Gilbert – Group Care Manager and Dementia  Living Coach, Noosacare. An industry leading and award winning age service provider.

The webinar will be facilitated by Marcus Riley, Chief Executive Officer, Ballycara.

LASA Chief Executive Officer Sean Rooney said the webinar was also an opportunity to hear directly from Cherie Hugo, whose Bond University research report received significant media interest recently.

“I know our industry takes the issue of nutrition very seriously as a core element of ensuring quality care for older Australians. This is the chance for our industry to ask questions and share experiences,” Mr Rooney said.

“While we all strive to deliver excellent services in food and catering, there is always more to learn and new ideas to consider.”

In its pre-Budget submission, LASA has called for Commonwealth funds for a project to identify best-practice and innovative directions for food services in residential aged care.

The webinar is free for LASA Members or $60 for Non-Members. Click here to register.
