LASA congratulates the South Australian and Northern Territory winners of the 2021 Excellence In Age Services Awards.
“The winners are exceptional and offer care and companionship for older Australians across the state and territory,” said LASA CEO Sean Rooney.
“The Awards focus on great individuals and teams, recognising their excellence in looking after and making a big difference in the lives of elders.
“There is also innovation and imagination. It inspires carers and workers who support ageing well and honour and respect older people.”
There are three category winners: Individual, Organisation and Team.
Lee-Anne Beazley is the Individual winner, working with Life Without Barriers (LWB).
Lee- Anne is a valued member of the LWB team and her passion and commitment to her clients is admired and congratulated, having worked for six years.
She provides services with great care and patience to clients with challenging circumstances and home care clients said she is an amazing support worker with empathy, excellent communication and non-judgmental attitude.
The commitment and passion she shows goes above and beyond and she is able to mentor new staff and showing a commitment to good practice in the future.
The Organisation winner is ECH (Enabling Confidence at Home) and is South Australia’s largest not-for-profit provider of affordable retirement living accommodation and ageing care services, enabling people to continue to live independently at home.
Operating since 1964, ECH is well attuned to the changing and complex needs of people as they age and promotes self-determination to enable people to have the best life possible as they age.
ECH offers: innovative wellness and Allied Health services, at-home services, social programmes, respite including short stay options at a custom-built centre in Henley Beach and independent retirement living housing options including a licence to occupy as well as affordable rental units.
ECH employs over 600 staff, including more than 200 Home Services Team Members who support people in their homes, almost 70 Allied Health Professionals, 30 clinical nursing staff and other back office staff in finance, marketing and people & culture.
ECH wanted to disrupt traditional care delivery and better support people who wanted to have a respectful death at home. As such, ECH’s innovative General Practice Program was developed and commenced in 2019 as a result of ECH’s pilot study entitled ‘Enabling Responsive & Individual Care at Home’ (EnRICH).
Prior to the Aged Care Royal Commission’s Report’s findings, back in 2019, ECH took a care delivery model that is anticipatory, timely and tangible. The client is the focus and the care provided emerges from a human-rights base of respect, equality, dignity and autonomy.
The Team winner is Rembrandt Living, with an exceptional home in Adelaide’s inner southern suburbs.
Rembrandt home has décor and furniture designed specifically to be reminiscent of a resident’s home in the community. Our halls are filled with trinkets, photos, memorabilia from days gone by and of course tributes to our Dutch heritage.
It is proudly small – with only 87 rooms and we are able to take the time to treat each person like the individual they are. Our team of nurses and carers are highly trained and are given the time needed to provide truly individual tailored care. These combined with our onsite General Practitioner who makes for the best of quality care.
Rembrandt’s allied health team focuses on wellbeing, enablement and rehabilitation, with our residents have elder-friendly, effective and fun allied health services. The primary focus is on delivering Occupational Therapy (OT) and Physiotherapy services to restore and or maintain residents’ strength and balance.
With the use of solely Rembrandt Living staff, we have successfully been able to maintain a high quality and continuity of care. Utilising existing staff and providing cross training has meant that staff are familiar with the residents and their individual needs, and in return the residents are received a higher standard of care by staff that they know and trust.
