Overview:

The Complaints Matter workshop will challenge you to actively seek opportunities to improve how you perceive and respond to complaints. Complaints present us all with opportunities to do better. It is important we recognise these opportunities and respond promptly. Using a number of case studies, this intimate, hands on workshop will focus on issues arising in residential care / home care. Sharing our collective experiences participants will explore how to approach complaints raised, including preparation, timing and options for resolution. We will also discuss a range of factors that can complicate this pathway, and options for managing these.

CLAIRE WITHAM
Aged Care Complaints Commissioner

Claire Witham has been the Director Complaints Operations SA/ WA/NT with the Aged Care Complaints Commissioner since January 2016. Claire is committed to leading and supporting her team in resolving complaints about aged care services as effectively as possible, resulting in improved care for residents and clients. Claire has worked at a senior leadership level in a diverse range of both state and federal government agencies, including the Australian Electoral Commission, SA Attorney-General’s Department, Arts SA and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

JANE HAWKINS
Aged Care Complaints Commissioner

Jane Hawkins has been a resolution manager for the SA/WA/NT region with the Aged Care Complaints Commissioner since July 2016, and has worked for the Department of Health in the area of aged care complaints resolution since November 2009. Prior to joining the Department of Health Jane worked as a registered nurse in a broad range of clinical settings including intensive care, palliative care and aged care.
